A journal of poetry and prose living in the periphery.
Outskirts (n) — The fringes of a place, existing with and pushing against imposed boundaries.
We’re interested in writing that subverts expectations. As rural writers ourselves, we want to read poetry and prose that explores liminal spaces — that dilapidated barn still perpetuating folktales, the edge of a field after harvest season, the shopping mall parking lot reflecting yellowed fluorescents.
We want work that challenges constructs of what’s interesting, valuable, or sacred. We want to publish the misfits, the misunderstood, and the underrepresented. You know the piece you love that’s been rejected 16 times? Trust your stubborn gut and send it to us.
We’re currently an online publication with print ambitions. Since we’re new, we don’t have the capacity to pay contributors at this time, but we hope to in the future. What we can offer is a home for your work, publicity on socials, and a personalized editorial experience.
